Draft STR Program

Overview

The Project Team is pleased to present the draft Los Alamos County Short-Term Rental Program. The draft proposes amendments to the County Code to contain provisions for allowing short-term rentals (STRs) to legally operate in the County and for ensuring life-safety and land-use compatibility concerns are addressed.

This draft STR Program is the product of extensive research of national and regional best practices, as well as a community involvement process. To date, the Project Team has conducted a Public Open House (Feb. 15, 2023), a Community Survey (Feb. 23-Mar. 26), and a second Public Open House (May 17), as well as steering committee meetings throughout the project. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide input at this important stage of the project.

How to share your input

We invite the public to share their questions and comments regarding the draft STR Program. A full draft of the text associated with the Program is available for viewing below. For a summary, please view the slideshow presentation from the May 17th, 2023, Public Open House, which identifies the key proposed Program components.

Comments on the draft STR Program will be accepted via email to Noah Berke noah.berke@wilsonco.com through June 18, 2023

Next Steps

The next draft will incorporate public comments through June 17, and will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission for recommendation to County Council for adoption via the County’s ordinance process.
